Painting on the Greek Island of Skopelos with Sue Swinand

Sponsored by the Worcester ART MUSEUM WITH THE ISLAND CENTER FOR THE ARTS

Join Sue Swinand, accomplished teacher and painter, for an art adventure that takes you to one of the most beautiful places on earth, the Aegean island of Skopelos. The famed light of Greece and ideal weather make Skopelos an artist's dream. Rising like an amphitheater over the harbor, the village is crowned with Byzantine churches and the ruins of a Venetian fortress. With its traditional architecture, charming village lanes lined with dazzling white houses, brightly colored window shutters and flower-adorned balconies, Skopelos town is recognized by the Greek Government as a "National Treasure."

Classes are held each morning from 9 AM to 1 PM. Afternoons are free to enjoy the island or continue working. At the beginning of the workshop, participants will work as a group with their instructor. As students begin to define their own objectives, more time will be available to work independently. Technical workshops are scheduled regularly to help students develop and employ new skills.

Group critiques are scheduled in the evenings between 6 and 8 PM .

On alternate evenings, cultural workshops will be offered. Field trips, painting, excursions to special sites on the island, organized social activities, group dinners, and free time round out an intense, rich, and varied program. Class structure will vary to accommodate students’ creative goals.
